The Big Fall

Here I am!
Ride em' cowgirl!!!
I had my first tumble off my beloved trusty "DUSTY!"
I am okay!
Just a bruised ego !!!
We had a two days planned riding with the pony cuz's.
They trailered to our stable.
Paint Girl and Brandy
Pony Girl and her boy Riley
Saddle Mountain Rider and Skylar
Desert Rose and Lady
Cowgirls Grace and King
Cat Boulou and Atticus
Malia and JD
and
Doc and Profile
Our first day we rode the trails behind the stable.
Doc and I have been on several rides in the past few weeks
checking them out for the big day.
We have been having some great rides!
We were on our way back.
Copperpony and I were leading.
We had to let Doc go first to open the gate.
Everyone made it through and we headed
for the stable.
Doc and I were riding beside each other.
We do it all the time in this area. Dusty was being a STINKER!
He kept pinning his ears back. trying to nip at Profile.
I decided to make him follow in behind him,
thinking it would be better. NOPE!
He started really acting up. I got after him.
He started backing up, couldn't because there was
a horse behind him, he went the other direction
but there was a fence.
Then all HELL broke loose.
I think I panicked, he panicked, I was telling him to WHOA,
but was pulling on the reins to go backwards,
while trying to stay on with my legs,
I am sure I got him with the spurs.
I tried to stay on, but it wasn't happening!
I am very lucky.
We were in the pasture. I had on my helmet.
Saddle Mountain Rider said he was watching me
and tried to make sure he didn't step on me.
He didn't.
I'll tell you it happened so fast.
Once I knew I was falling, instinct told me to cover my face.
I landed on my backside.
That is where I wear my cell phone phone at the stable.
I have a permanent imprint! Black and blue and Huge!
It hurt like heck! Cracked the face of my phone.
Then I tasted blood.
I had split my lip.
CRAP!
My family and Doc kept really good care of me!
Cowboy got called to take me to the emergency room.
My physician told me they would clean it and see if it needed stitches.
So he asked me if I wanted the good or the bad news?
I said give me the bad.
He said I would need it stitched.
Then He asked me again if I wanted the good or the bad news?
I said give me the bad.
He said the shot to numb it really ,REALLY, REALLY
HURTS!
CRAP!
It was okay. It only hurt in one spot.
So I ended up with two stitches and a fat lip!
I am on day 4 and it hurts worse than when I did it.
I see my doctor tomorrow to make sure it is healing okay.
My ego is healing too.

The next day I climbed back on my trusty "DUSTY" !
We trailered out to ride.
It was really beautiful.
I have to say, I had some anxiety a couple times.
Doc got after me to relax!
Dusty was really good.

I have played the whole scenario over and over
again in my mind, trying to see what I did wrong.
First thing I should have done was to disengage him!
Doc and I are going to work on this.
I take the blame. I think it was my fault.
Yes, Dusty should have stopped when I said WHOA.
He was reacting to by signals.
I was confusing him.
I learned a lesson, a BIG lesson.
He has never acted this way towards Profile, his best buddy.
I am wondering if it was because he was the lead horse
before we went through the gate, and he was only trying
to do the job I set before him.
I am going to forget about it and move on.
I am looking forward to our big trip coming up in a week!
I do trust him.
Thank you Doc, and all of my family for being there
immediately to help.
I LOVE you all!!!

Oh no! I'd like to say I've never "bit the dust", but that would be a big fat lie! Glad to hear you are doing ok and YES, gotta get back on that horse. :)

Whew! I'm glad you're ok and didn't get seriously hurt. I've spent so many hours trying to figure out what I could have done differently to change the outcome of my own fall and have come to the conclusion that sometimes "sh*t just happens...and there is nothing you can do about it."
Especially when it comes to horses. They can be so unpredictable and move so fast and cat-like that everyone who rides horses will fall at some point. It's true, "It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of WHEN".

Hopefully the injuries will always be none or minor....unlike mine.
bah.

Good for you getting back up in the saddle again so soon after your fall, too.

Oh, so sorry you took a tumble, it's not fun! Glad you are doing well, phone imprint on your butt must hurt! and a split lip!!
I am still healing, arm from my fall last month. We are still riding....Gilly slipped and fell in the road today. I wasn't on him, he was assing around and his feet went out from under him, he got a bad road rash on his upper lip; inside and out. I hope it didn't knock any of his teeth loose. He won't let me look in his mouth....now I have a horse with a fat lip!

I am glad you are okay mom! It was really scary sitting on my horse and watching this unfold, it was like slow motion, but happened so fast. It was just so out of character for Dusty. I'm just glad you fell off to the side, and weren't "thrown." It's a lesson to be learned for me, too, just trying to figure out how to handle situations like that when they arise. I hope the Dr. gives you a thumbs up on the lip healing. See you soon! xoxo

So glad you are okay! Really glad you had on your helmet. It is good not to ponder it for too long and just get back to riding. I spent to much time pondering things when Jack bounced me last fall and I fractured my pelvis and herniated a muscle. I got back on after getting up out of the dirt...didn't realize how bad I was hurt. But the more I thought about it the more nervous I became about riding, rocked my confidence. I am finally back to being confident and I learned a lot on the journey.
Take care

Yes, it was very scary seeing the whole thing happen, something I never wanted to see! I don't think I have ever jumped off Brandy so quick before! I am so happy that your injuries weren't more severe. I am also very proud of you for getting back up on Dusty the next day! That takes a lot of courage. I couldn't do it after my fall off Fritzy, because I was hurt too bad, so it took awhile before I actually did get back up on her, and you know I still have confidence issues with her!
Hope the doctor says your lip is healing well! See ya next week!

Ouch! Stitches in your lip?! I saw the trail ride photos on Paint Girl's blog and it looked like a good time except for the falling part. At least you're okay and are confident enough to get back on and ride. I'm glad you have someone to work with you on what to do next time, but hopefully, there won't be a next time.

Oh I have been waiting to hear what had happened! I'm so sorry!! I am very glad that you did not end up with a serious injury!! And you are right it does hurt worse a few days after!! But I also want you to know that you can replay this in your head a million times and always find something that could have been done different, but who knows if that different would have changed the outcome or made it worse...I have learned this lesson from my accident, I often wondered if I should have just stayed on and risk being thrown into the tree's....But my choice was to jump and I pay the price for that...So either way you'll never know.

But I am so proud of you for getting back on the next day!! You rock! And being a bit nervous is OK, you will get through it and you'll have a fantastic trip with your family!!

Take care and God Bless!!

I guess if the truth is known just about every one of us has had the same thing or similar happen. Several times for me. I was very lucky and was only bruised each time. I'm glad you are ok and that you got back on him. It's true what they say.
