Dusty

Cowboys 73' CJ5 Jeep

My life with Dusty started 1 1/2 years ago. I blame the Desert Rose for all this craziness!!!
Cowgirls Grace and I went to the desert a few years ago to visit Jessesdesertrose. Sissy's and I cowgirl'd up and spent all our time out blazin' the trails. It was so beautiful and we had the most wonderful time.
When I got home I spent all of my spare time looking for horses on the internet .
I really wanted my own horse that I could love. I even received some riding lessons from Pony Girl, Paint Girl, and her man. But one obstacle blocked my way. I didn't have any extra money to splurge on a horse. So I kept on dreaming and looking. My cowboy knew how I longed for my own horse. You see, PG and Paint Girl grew up with horses. They spent every spare moment with them. I was afraid, really afraid of them. I know that is silly, but I was truly fearful.
So one day Cowboy decided to sell his jeep. I did not know what his plan was, but I soon learned!
He gave me a gift of $ so I could purchase my dream!
PG came home one weekend and we went horse shopping. We looked at 5 in one day, and nothing seemed right. PG got back on the internet that night and found the picture below of 'Dusty." He was for sale and close to home.

Cowboy and Pony Girl went to see him the next day. They knew he would be perfect for me. So we made arrangements for me to go see him the next night after work. Well that morning Cowboy called me, Dusty's owner had someone there from the stable wanting to purchase him right on the spot. I had to make a decision whether or not I wanted him. Now, I hadn't even seen or rode him yet. I knew Cowboy and PG would not think I should have this guy if he was not right for me. So I said, "lets go for it!" When I saw him for the first time, it was love at first sight!!! I know he came from Idaho. He was rescued along with several other horses from a neglectful situation. We suspect he might have had some abuse. I don't want to know. He is very FRIGHTENED of spray bottles and doesn't like baths. He hates to be wormed. He is very sensitive. You can talk him through things if you stay calm and quiet. He LOVES children! He puts up with my mistakes. He tolerates the arena, but loves being on the trail. He is a great teacher. He has taught me confidence and to overcome my fear. I have to say, he and I have many of the same personality traits! He is my friend. When I go out to get him from his turnout out he is genuinely happy to see me! He likes me! I think he loves me!!! I am one lucky Cowgirl to have two great guys in my life!!!

Thank you Cowboy for making my dream come true...

I Love you!!!

Mom, I am so glad you found Dusty. He was meant to be in your life. I am so glad you have overcome your fear of horses. I remember being young and you being terrified of our horses but you still took me to horse shows and spent all day watching me fulfill my dream.
Now you get to fulfill your dream!

What a sweet story. I was there and it was very stressful, committing to a horse for you that YOU hadn't even seen! And I freaked because I was worried about a vet check...it all worked out. We couldn't have gotten you a better horse. Horses can take advantage of rookie riders. Dusty has taken care of you. He has also not been perfect. But you don't learn much from a "perfect" horse. You learn from a safe horse that challenges you. Dusty will always challenge you, just enough. It has been fun to see you get into horses. I know Paint Girl and I are so proud of how much you have done and are learning! We know it can be frustrating, but riding and working with horses is not an exact science.
Can't wait until we can ride together again! :) xo

I think that horses find you - Dusty must have sent a strong message to your Cowboy and PG, and your faith in them must be really strong to have taken that leap to buy him sight unseen. What a wonderful story! What a great husband! And last but not least, what a special horse!

Awwwww, my eyes got all watery over this beautiful tribute to your cowboy and your horse. How special they are!

And I've heard of a 'Kingdom for a Horse"

But never a "Jeep for a Horse"

That's a first! And Sooooooo cool!

So glad you and Dusty found each other and for PG and PG and Cowboy in helping you realize your dream :)

I, too, found my "dream" horse by committing before I ever rode or saw him! Sometimes things just work out. But I probably wouldn't make a habit of gambling like that!
